Fees and Rebates

Please note: Fee information is correct as of January 2024. Prices are subject to change. For an individualised quote, please contact me directly.

Rebates Available

You do not require a referral to see a psychologist. Clients can self-refer by contacting me. However, a referral from another professional (paediatrician, GP, other allied health worker or school) helps me to know that you have a support team in place and you may be eligible to access rebates for certain services. Please note that rebates do not cover the full cost of services.

Medicare

Counselling/therapeutic services: With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you may be eligible to claim Medicare rebates for a total of 10 individual and 10 group sessions each calendar year. To start with, your doctor or psychiatrist will refer you for up to 6 sessions. If you need more, they can refer you for further sessions. Please see the Services Australia website for the most up to date rebate amounts and information.

Autism assessments: Medicare rebates may be available for autism assessments for children and young people under 25 if a paediatrician or psychiatrist has made a referral. This allocates up to four sessions (8 over a lifetime) of rebate to be used amongst all allied health professionals (e.g. psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy) for assessment sessions. Please see the Services Australia or Medicare websites for the most up to date rebate amount and further information.

Medicare rebates are typically not available for most psycho-educational and cognitive assessments and reports.

ā€‹Private Health Insurance

Some private health insurance policies provide rebates for allied health services. As every fund is different and can change over time, it is best to check with your particular fund about your individual entitlements.

NDIS

In some cases, the NDIS may cover the cost of some services. Please see The NDIS website for more details. Your early childhood partner, LAC or NDIA planner will also be able to offer advice. Please note I accept referrals for self managed and plan managed clients only.

Fees

Counselling / Therapeutic and Consultation Services

Therapeutic and consultation services are charged at $214.41 for an hour session. In some circumstances NDIS participants may be able to claim this fee through the NDIS. For other clients, Medicare rebates may be available with a referral from your GP or psychiatrist to reduce your out of pocket cost (see above).

Professional supervision for psychologists

I provide supervision for psychologists wanting endorsement as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist under the registrar program, as well as psychologists wanting supervision to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) requirements. Fees are charged at $200 plus GST for an hour session.

Cognitive and educational assessments and reports

These are available to identify strengths and support needs, giftedness, intellectual disability, and learning disabilities/differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and specific learning disorder in written expression (previously sometimes referred as language-based dysgraphia). Fees depend on the tests required, which varies between individuals. Assessments including a full written report and feedback session typically cost between $1000-1800. Iā€™m very happy to speak with you further to provide an individualised quote based on your circumstances. These assessments are available for children and adolescents aged 6-16 years.

Please click here for more information about assessments for specific learning disabilities with MindSpark Psychology.

Developmental assessments and reports

Please note: A multidisciplinary assessment for Autism, including a speech pathologist and psychologist as well as a paediatrician/psychiatrist is recommended for most children and adolescents. Paediatrician/psychiatrist fees are separate. To see a paediatrician/psychiatrist, you will require a referral from your GP.

For autism assessments, if you do not already have a speech pathologist experienced in autism assessments, I often partner with Connection Speech Pathology Services for multidisciplinary assessments. Multidisciplinary assessments are available for children and adolescents aged 5+ years. If you choose to utilise this service, then further information can be found on their website at http://ConnectionSpeechPathology.com.au .

  • Multidisciplinary developmental assessment with both a psychologist and speech pathologist (including a detailed report), prices start at $2400.

  • Psychology only developmental assessment (including a detailed report), prices start at $1600.

  • Cognitive assessments completed alongside an Autism assessment are $550.

Please note: in some circumstances, individuals may be able to access cognitive assessments through other services such as their school.

Medicare rebates may be available with a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist (see above).

Other Reports

All other reports are charged at a rate of $214.41 per hour of report writing time. Please note that I do not write court or forensic reports.

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) provides a schedule of suggested fees for all psychologists. My fees are below these recommendations to help improve accessibility.
